The Atlanta Braves have traded utility man Sean Rodriguez to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for minor league infielder Connor Joe. Rodriguez, 32, has not played much this year due to a horrible car accident in January and underwent shoulder surgery soon after. Originally expected to miss the entire 2017 campaign, Rodriguez beat all odds by coming back in late July, but has struggled ever since.
Sean Rodriguez has only hit .162 (6-37) with 2 HR and 3 RBI since his return. However, his OBP is a lot higher at .326 thanks to 8 walks. Unfortunately for the Braves, Sean struck out a staggering 19 times in those 37 AB.
Sean spent the previous 2 years in Pittsburgh, who are currently 3 games under .500, will add INF depth while trying to catch up with the red hot Chicago Cubs. In 2016, his best season so far, Sean slugged 18 bombs with 56 RBI and hit .270. Sean spent the earlier portion of his career with the LA Angels (2008-09) and the TB Rays (2010-2014). He signed a 2 year deal with Atlanta before the season.

Braves activate RHP Jason Motte from 10 Day DL and place LHP Ian Krol on the 10 day DL with a left oblique strain.
The Sonny Gray sweepstakes are right around the corner and I’m thinking almost like every Oakland A’s fan when is this going to end? Well, the reason why it is taking so long is that the A’s want to explore their options. When I mean explore their options I mean to see what the best offer is the trade deadline and hey! If they don’t like any of the offers they get by trade deadline they probably won’t trade him. Now let’s explore the main teams interested in Sonny Gray and all of their exciting prospects.
Yankees: A team in a win now situation. What makes no sense is there not acting like it. With prospects like Jorge Mateo, Estevan Florial, and Chance Adams the Yankees have a great shot at Sonny Gray! Problem is, they won’t give up those prospects and I’m thinking why aren’t you giving up your prospects for an all star you need in this dire situation for World Series number 28. The world may never know why the Yankees are doing that.
Braves: Now were talking, a team with Albies and Acuna on it sign me up! Acuna is a stud in every way and can change the A’s culture. Albies is a young stud a player who is performing well. With two players like that they are definitely in the race for Sonny Gray.
Astros: Losing interest but, still one of the last teams in the race are the Houston Astros. Now they are loaded with prospects with Derek Fisher, Francis Martes, Kyle Tucker, and even more! Same thing as Yankees is in a win now situation. What happened to the Astros I have no idea they have lost their interest and are going towards other pitchers in the market. The Astros are probably thinking the value is too high for an injury prone Sonny Gray.
As the deadline is approaching the interest in Sonny Gray is increasing. Let’s just see where the Sonny Gray sweepstakes will lead us.
